Twitter suspends more than 500 accounts
Twitter partially follows government orders, it has withheld over 500 account but takes no action against accounts of news media entities, journalists, activists and politicians
This withheld account are available outside India
Twitter did not withheld account of news media entities, journalists and politicians. It said "To do so, we believe, would violate their fundamental right to free expression under Indian law"
Information Technology Secretary Ajay Prakash Sawhney in a video-conference meeting with Twitter’s vice president-global public policy, Monique Meche, and deputy general counsel and vice president-legal, Jim Baker said that while the microblogging site was free to formulate its own rules and guidelines, Indian laws, which are enacted by the Parliament of India, must be followed irrespective of Twitter’s own rules, according to a Ministry statement.
